The Hard one
Joel called it a hard gig..as opposed to a soft gig where you play nice and keep the crowd happy and the management don´t pull the plug on you.
We only found out about this gig a week ago.Alain contacted everyone in the band and said they (Hotel Cerro De Jaula ) needed to know if we wanted to perform.
Sure! Never turn down a chance to get up there and strut your stuff..or whatever the equivalent expression would be in highbrow jazz/improv terms.
But then Diego and maricarmen couldn´t make it and things got a little tricky.Thankfully Javier Denis agreed to sit in with us at very short notice and Antonio also threw his hat into the ring so we were back on track.
The house drum kit I use there always gives me problems but this time I came prepared with my own drum stool, extra cymbals and a tom that didn´t sound like a biscuit tin.
At the start of the set Joel blasted some twisted fuzz guitar and we backed him up with some heavy skronk no doubt to the delight of the mostly seated audience expecting some chicken in a basket type smooth jazz.
Fair play to the management this is the third time we have played there and they keep inviting us back even after hearing us perform...I wish there were more venues out there that would take a chance on weirdo music instead of the same old, same old.
All in all a fun gig..at least for us!
